Barracudas steal the show.

Well what a fantastic evening on Friday 23rd June at the South Ribble Sports Awards event.  Just getting shortlisted is an achievement in itself and it was a proud evening sitting amongst athletes and volunteers from other sports and witnessing the stories behind them.

But our pride grew as the evening progressed.  The Young Volunteer Award was the first to be announced and to our great delight Katie Wood was the overall winner.

This was followed by the Rising Star Award where competition was stiff but Pia Murray came out as the panel’s choice.

After a pause in proceedings and to give us time to get over the excitement the evening continued with presentations.  The next one involving one of our members was the Adult Volunteer Award, where again there was plenty of worthy applicants, yet once again Barracudas came out on top with Vicki Pickup taking the award.  Our cheers were getting louder!

So next up it was Coach of the Year where the panel said they had a difficult time deciding on the overall winner so had decided to offer a ‘Highly Commended’ award as well because judging was so tight.  Our one and only Gillian Rankin was the person they chose for this accolade and we were all ‘hooping and hollering’ by this time

The final award of the evening was the ‘biggy’, the Community Club of the Year Award.  This saw a lot of very worthy contenders and after all our previous successes we thought we’d had our lot.  But as the atmosphere built and the final announcement made we were jumping in our seats to hear the words ……. “and this year’s Community Club of the Year Award goes to Leyland Barracudas”.   Now we really were getting loud!

What a fantastic evening shared with lots of other committed sports’ people from across the area and what an immensely proud and rewarding evening for all our nominees who came out victorious.  Well done to you all and thank you for your continued commitment to our club.

Congratulations to all our Winners
